Metropolitan Planning Organization

MPOThe Texarkana Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is the administrative agency for the Texarkana Urban Transportation Study (TUTS). The Texarkana MPO was designated on September 14, 1999, by the Governors of Arkansas and Texas, the Departments of Transportation for Arkansas (ARDOT) and Texas (TXDOT), and the City of Texarkana, Arkansas and Miller County, Arkansas, and the Cities of Nash, Texarkana, Wake Village, and a portion of Leary, Texas and Bowie County Texas.

The MPO is responsible for continuous, comprehensive, and coordinated transportation planning within the MPO Study Area. The purpose of the MPO is to provide local citizens and elected officials the opportunity to be involved in the transportation planning process.

Planning Area

Map of MPO planning area showing major roads.The MPO study area is comprised of nearly 195 square miles. The Texarkana metropolitan planning area (MPA) is located at the NE Texas and SW Arkansas border.

The MPA is located 130 miles South from Little Rock, Arkansas, 180 miles East of Dallas, Texas, 70 miles West of Shreveport, Louisiana, and 210 miles SE of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The MPA contains several highways including Interstate 30, Interstate 49, Interstate 369, US-59, US-67, US-71, and US-82.
