Contractor crews have begun work to shift traffic to Phase 2 configuration of IH-30.
- Eastbound Phase 2: No changes to the current traffic patterns. All exits and entrances to IH 30 east will remain open.
- Westbound Phase 2: Westbound traffic will be moved to the newly constructed concrete pavement behind the concrete barrier walls in the median.
Westbound Part 1: This adjustment will be shifting the left lane of westbound traffic to the left of the median barrier wall. Westbound left lane traffic will enter the left thru lane on the east end (Arkansas) of the project and travel the thru lane the entire 6 miles of the project, then shift back to the existing westbound lanes on the west end of the project past FM 989/Kings Highway. There will be NO access to exit ramps for the left lane westbound thru traffic within the 6-mile construction corridor. Westbound local traffic (traffic that intends to exit I-30 in Texarkana) will stay on the existing outside westbound lane. Signs and message boards will alert traffic to the change in access. This adjustment is scheduled to be implemented beginning Tuesday, April 29, 2025, 8 PM to 6 AM.
Westbound Part 2: This adjustment will be constructing temporary ramp tie-ins for the westbound local traffic. Beginning Wednesday, April 30, 2025, nightly from 8 PM to 6 AM, Contractor crews will close various exit ramps and entrance ramps as they construct temporary ramp tie-ins. During this work, westbound local traffic will be temporarily detoured to the frontage road system during nighttime work hours. Daily, westbound local traffic will remain on the existing outside lane and have access to the westbound exit and entrance ramps. This work is estimated to take two weeks. Inclement weather or other unforeseen issues could cause delays or changes in the work schedule.
Westbound Part 3: After the temporary ramp tie-ins are constructed and concrete traffic barrier is moved onto the newly constructed median pavement, westbound local traffic (traffic that needs to exit I 30 in Texarkana) will be shifted from the existing outside westbound lane to the newly constructed median pavement to the right of the median barrier wall. Various westbound exit and entrance ramps will be closed during the Phase 2 work. Signs and message boards will help alert traffic to closed ramps.
The Contractor has estimated that Phase 2 work will take 15 months to complete. Inclement weather or other unforeseen issues could cause delays or changes in the work schedule.
TxDOT reminds local commuters that the I-30 Frontage Road system allows traffic to travel eastbound from FM 989/Kings Highway to US 71/Stateline and westbound from US 71/Stateline to FM 989/Kings Highway, continuously, without ever stopping at a traffic signal.
