The Historic Landmark Preservation Commission consist of seven members and two alternates. Each Commission member serves on at least one sub-committee: guidelines and standards review, community involvement and marketing, or expansion, preservation, and revitalization. Terms are three years and are served without compensation.
Commission Duties
- Reviews applications for Certificate of Appropriateness for property in a designated historic district and for property holding a historic designation.
- Recommends certain sites, districts, areas, buildings, or structures to be designated as historical.
- Recommends conferral of recognition upon the owners of landmarks or properties within districts by means of plaques.
- Increases public awareness of the value of historic, cultural, and architectural preservation.
Meetings
The Historic Landmark Preservation Commission generally meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Texarkana, Texas City Hall located at 220 Texas Blvd, Texarkana, Texas. Meetings are normally held in the second floor conference room at 12:00 p.m. Meetings are subject to change or cancellation.
